Pet Precautions in Day Care Areas

-- from June 1999 issue of CCA's The "Ten" Times Newsletter

Pet food dishes and cat boxes in day areas are a huge temptation to toddlers who are investigating their world closely. Pets who are disturbed while eating often do not appreciate the intrusion, and may react with a bite. Older children may get entertainment from teasing a pet while it's eating. The contents of cat boxes offer a seemingly fascinating choice of textures to an exploring child. Both food dishes and cat boxes should remain inaccessible to all children for the protection of both the pet and the child.
