Egg cartons to start seedlings.
Old styrofoam cups for transplants of #1.
Gallon milk cartons, with the tops left off and the bottoms cut off, make great little greenhouses until the plant is strong enough and spring is warm enough. Be sure to remove carton on really warm days as not to scald plant.
Old styrofoam cups with an inch cut off the tops and placed around the seedling from #3 will protect the plant from slugs.
Old pantyhose or stockings make gentle tie-ups for plants.
Sponge getting ratty? Stuff it into the toe of an old stocking and use it to scrub paint off hands, bugs off cars, etc.
Mismatched socks -- make great hand puppets. Use old buttons for eyes and noses and a marker to make the mouth. Add an old cardboard box decorated with paper (left over wrapping paper, colored brown paper bags, magazine pages or paint). Use the box for a stage and have a puppet show. <--- makes for a great rainy day activity!
